What it is like to stay at the Patagonia Villa Lodge
Imagine yourself sleeping in a cozy wooden cabin at the edge of a small Patagonian forest at the end of the world, in Ushuaia, Argentina. Nestled in a small hill forest, 10min away from downtown Ushuaia, you will find a small cabin complex, Patagonia Villa . This is an idyllic place to stay for your visit at the tip of the American continent.

Our experience at the Patagonia Villa Lodge
The cabins
The property is a 3-star hotel. The complex has 4 different cabins of different sizes and the biggest one can accommodate groups of up to 6 persons. The cabins are all made of wooden pillars made with native lenga beechwood and natural stone. The cabins are tastefully decorated with rustic and vintage elements, all within the Argentinian gaucho tradition. Every piece is carefully selected by the owners to keep a unique charming feeling to the cabins. The cabins are made with materials from the area with huge trunks of wood from Patagonian trees and stones from the nearby mountains. All of these details give an authentic and local feeling.
The different lodges are the Suite Lodge, which is the biggest one and has a king bed with 2 single beds and a sleeper sofa. This lodge can host up to 6 guests. The Suite Lodge with Jacuzzi is the second biggest lodge it has great views of the forest and is perfect for a couple or for a family of 4. Of course, the biggest selling point here is the Jacuzzi. The third type of accommodation is the Lodge which is smaller in size than the other cabins. This house is perfect for couples but you can ask for 1 or 2 extra individual beds. Finally, the complex also has 2 rooms, called the Standard Room, available but they are not in a stand-alone cabin. These rooms are for couples or solo travellers. The property also has 2 apartments, these are called Magallanes A & B. Apartment A has 2 rooms and apartment B has only 1 room. Both have private bathrooms and complete kitchen.
We did our Argentina tour with 2 of our close friends and Patagonia Villa Lodge was perfect for our group of 4! We decided to stay in the Suite Lodge. The cabin was designed in an open space concept, so no closed rooms, except for the bathroom. Our cabin had 2 floors with the upper floor being semi-open for the room. The upstairs room had a king-size bed with a wardrobe and a balcony with a view of the forest. On the first floor, there was a small bed and the futon sofa was big enough for two people to sleep.
The cabins have a very complete kitchen, with a minibar fridge, stove as well as all kitchen utensils that you will need. The electric kettle was welcomed to enjoy a warm cup of tea when we came back from our explorations. The kitchen is perfect for guests to cook at night and to eat a complimentary breakfast in the morning. The room price included daily baked bread, jam and dulce de leche, yogurt and coffee or tea. Perfect to start your day before visiting beautiful Patagonia! If you need any special diet menus, I would suggest letting them know so they can try to accommodate you with their snack bar. All cabins come with a TV, a phone, safety boxes and free toiletries such as shampoo, hair conditioner, and soap. Of course, the hotel has free Wi-Fi.
To enjoy the scenery, you can sit by the tall windows on the sofa in the living room or next to the chimney during the winter months. The huge windows let beautiful daylight enter the cabins. You will want to stay looking through the windows every morning and listen to the sound of nature and birds. The Suite Lodge also has a balcony to better enjoy the views. This is the only cabin type that has a balcony.
Services
Cabins are cleaned daily by the cleaning staff. The staff is completely trilingual in Spanish, English, and Portuguese. There are laundry and dry cleaning, and babysitter services for additional charges. Also, for an extra fee, you can also request an airport shuttle. This property offers currency exchange on-site if you are running out of cash.
The cabins also have a selection of fine Patagonian wine (these come at an extra cost). The hosts offer a list of restaurants that deliver if you don’t want to go to the restaurant or cook.
The check-out is at 10 am. If your plane is later you can leave your luggage at the reception. They also have express check-in/check-out. If you have little ones, you can ask for Baby safety gates so there is a safe play area. The hotel also has some board games available for bigger children or for adults ;)
A big plus: you can easily park your car at the entrance of the complex. If you are a big group spread out in different cabins there is also a common area where everyone in the group can hang out around the big communal table or even do a traditional Argentinean Asado in the built-in bbq. This is their banquet facilities. The property is very big so you can go walk around, there are also picnic areas.
The complex is owned by a family and they are extremely friendly! They will make you feel like you are right at home. They are at your disposal to help you with recommendations, or to call a taxi and they will help you with any other questions. If you want to go skiing, cycling or horseback riding, they have all the contact for you.
Location
You always hear that location is key! Well, this complex has an ideal location! Patagonia Villa is located in the forest, Bosque del Faldeo. So if you want to do a hike, you are right there! It is a 25-minute walking distance or a 10-minute drive from the city center. The cabins are also a short drive from the many treks and national parks such as the Glacial Martial and the Tierra del Fuego National Park. Very convenient if you have a car. If not, the cabins are so well located that taking a cab will be very affordable.
Due to the location, the cabins are very close to all the action and restaurants. However, staying in your beautiful cabin will offer you a relaxing and natural refuge. Such a good contrast if you usually live in the city.
What we liked
I loved the cabins with all the wooden pillars and the huge windows. I found that the closeness to nature and to the city was perfect. In Ushuaia, you will find accommodations that are right downtown or very secluded. However, I liked the fact that we were in the forest away from civilization and were able to enjoy a real Patagonia experience!
The owner, Luciana, was great at helping us during our stay. She was very friendly and recommended we go to Playa Larga, a unique place that is often off the radar of many travellers. We were so grateful for this recommendation!

Verdict?
The charming cabins are the perfect nature getaway close to civilization in Ushuaia.

Price? Around $250 USD per night for the suite lodge. The price fluctuates a little depending on the season, dates and the type of cabin that you rent.

TAP WATER
You can drink tap water so ditch your plastic bottle and fill your reusable bottle at the hotel.
WHEN TO GO
Ushuaia is located at the southern tip of South America and the temperatures are on the colder side. Argentina has 4 seasons, so it all depends on which season you prefer to travel. When we went to Ushuaia it was summer and the temperatures were around 5°C. The region has a lot of wind so do come with the right clothing for your trip at the end of the world.
CURRENCY
The currency of the country is the Argentinian Peso. The sign is $ (so don’t get mixed up with USD or CAD). Due to the monetary crises that have constantly beat Argentina in the past decades, it is very hard to find pesos outside of the country since they need to stabilize their monetary reserves. I would suggest exchanging money upon arrival. You can also pay with a credit card in most places.
power
In Argentina, the power plugs and sockets are of type C (characterized by 2 pins) and I (characterized by 3 pins, it kind of looks like a crying smiley face). The standard voltage is 220 V and the standard frequency is 50 Hz.
