Why you need to do L’Afternoon Tea Bus Tour in London

The quintessential afternoon tea in Britain is a must have experience that many travelers have on their bucket list. Choosing the right experience can be a little tricky, every afternoon tea vary immensely so how to choose the one that you would like? Well, look no further, I have the perfect London experience for you! What do you think about doing a London tour through the most visited attractions in a red double-decker bus while doing your afternoon tea? The tour perfectly blends different London icons into one. The world renown French bakery Brigit’s organizes these daily tours at different times of the day.

The first time I read about the bus I noticed that those pastries look absolutely delicious! And my second reaction was how do you drink hot tea on a moving bus? Well, the crew has everything well planned and they have thought about everything.

You are seated in a booth of 2 or 4 and the tables have little cup holders for you to put your drink. The tables are decorated with cute drawings of girls in heels next to a famous landmark. The walls on the bus were decorated with flowers to celebrate Spring.

The super friendly staff will explain to you the tour and how it will unfold. Basically, all you have to do is sit, enjoy the beautiful sights and the delicious treats for about 90 min.

Teas and food

Let's be honest, you are doing this tour more for the food than for the tea. The tour offers an assorted selection of savoury and sweet treats and let me tell you they are soooo worth the hype!

The high tea pastries, muffins, and finger sandwiches are already layout on the table upon your arrival. Everything is freshly baked in the morning of.

The food selection changes regularly with the seasons. We had the following: Spinach, feta, and sun-dried tomato savoury muffin, Smoked salmon pretzel with cream cheese, chives and cucumber, Ham & cheese sandwich with whole grain mustard mayo on granary bread. On the sweet side we had, Lemon meringue tart, Vanilla and raspberry jam choux, Queen sablé and cream cheese mousse and a Chocolate mini cupcake.

After approximately 45 minutes, you will get fresh scones with clotted cream and strawberry jam. They served the scones warm, a real treat! The portions are very generous so don't worry about being hungry. We took the bus for lunch and it was more than enough rather than just an afternoon snack. The staff also gives you take away boxes for the unfinished pieces.

As for the teas, there is a selection from Betjeman & Barton, who are French tea experts since 1919. You can choose between English Breakfast, Earl Grey, Darjeeling, Green Tea, Jasmine Tea, Rooibos, Jardin Rouge and Peppermint. If you are not a fan of tea, don't worry, there is also coffee (Americano, Cappuccino or Latte Macchiato), hot chocolate or just plain water if you’d like.

The staff serves you the hot tea in travel mugs so you don't get burnt! The mug is included in the price tour so you can bring it back home as a nice souvenir. I know I'm loving mine for the office! You also get a glass of sparkling wine and you get to choose when to take it, either with your salty threats or with the sweet ones. We chose to take it with the salty ones.

All plates and cakes stand have anti-slip foam under them so don't worry about getting stained or burnt!

ALIMENTARY RESTRICTIONS?

The tour offers several dietary options like vegan, gluten-free, Halal and all you need to do is to put your dietary restrictions while booking your tour. If you are lactose intolerant, I would highly suggest that you book the vegan tour as the food has a lot of dairy in the sandwiches and in the pastries.

The tour

While on the tour, you hear Britain's hits like the Spice Girls and the Beatles. The tour also proves little explanation about the major attractions and some fun trivia. This tour is more about having a fun experience rather than an informative one so don't expect to have a complete historical tour that you can find elsewhere, this is more about eating and having a perfect girls afternoon.

The vintage London 1960 Routemaster bus takes you through the city's most popular attractions such as the London Eye, Big Ben, Houses of Parliament, Westminister Abbey, St. James’s Park, Hyde Park, the Royal Albert All, Marble Arch, Nelson’s Column, Downing Street and more! However, London can be a very busy city so the bus might not be able to do the complete route due to traffic or road work.

Also, keep in mind that there is NO washroom on the bus so I will suggest going before the tour kick starts.

PICK-UP LOCATION

You can take the bus at Trafalgar Square at 12:30 pm and 3 pm. or from Victoria Coach Station at 12 pm, 2:30 pm and 5 pm. We took the tour from Victoria Coach Station. The tour departs at Gate 0. The coach station is about 10 minutes walk from Victoria Underground Station. I would suggest arriving 10 to 15min prior to the start of the tour.

Verdict?

This was a fun experience and a great way to combine London attractions. If you are in the city for a short amount of time or on a business trip, this might be the perfect tour to take.
